Learning Coming Alive

Imagine learning coming alive in our schools, where students and teachers are engaged co-learners, deep learners, with their students.

It’s happening now, in classrooms around the world.

Imagine 12 kindergartners busting out of the doors during their recess, with iPads in their hands. Pointing toward the sky, they excitedly call out the names of the clouds they were seeing, “Cumulus! Cirrus!” quickly taking pictures of them before running back to their classroom to share with their teacher what they just experienced.

Their peers who are exploring trees become curious with them about how the clouds disappear after some time… asking do trees also “disappear”. This leads to a powerful project about deforestation and climate change, using the types of clouds to share about droughts.

Imagine disengaged middle schoolers becoming curious and engaged about the Bill of Rights, actively working within and beyond class time to make connections between the course content and their own lives.

Imagine their joy as they become intrinsically motivated to deepen understanding and to share powerful stories of their discoveries with the learning community… asking their teacher to let them do it again!

Imagine a room of teenagers sharing what surprised them throughout the week, excitedly ready to act on their new insights about their creative potential. The look of empowerment on students' faces at the realization that they've just discovered a new insight about themselves. The grapple and then the reward of making connections that surprised and delighted everyone.
