Awakened Wonder
There is a point where you sense a school as a dynamic learning system coming alive. Where vitality leads to thriving at a tipping point.
We don't know when that will happen, but there is no mistaking it when it does. That's what we sensed recently in the primary school at Woodcrest State College in Queensland.
When David and I were recently meeting with the instructional leaders there, you could feel the joy overflowing. They shared what was happening with their first-grade students through to their 6th graders as the DIG framework was introduced in different curriculum areas. As they talked, you could feel them getting more excited.
In this first term of their new school year, they focused the school on the theme of 'wonder', and they launched a new maker space that they called a WonderLab. Truly, wonder is being awakened throughout their school – new teaching teams are forming, and learning is crossing grade levels, all organically emerging from the teachers' enthusiasm.
